The LA Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) has joined with the County to launch the Homeless Outreach Portal -- an innovative online tool that allows residents to join the fight against homelessness by connecting people they perceive to be in need with outreach services.
When you see someone in need, just fill out the short form on the site and LAHSA, County Departments, and other providers will use the information to dispatch a homeless services outreach team to the area.
Essentially, if you see a homeless person, a person in need, you fill out a form, using this homeless outreach portal, and make an outreach request.
The LAHSA will take care of the rest.
A recent (3/2017) issue of the Consumer Reports on Health supports the finding that physical activity helps keep your heart and lungs working well, reduces the risk of several illnesses and may reduce pain. The CDC says that’s what’s most helpful is 5 hours a week of moderate activity (such as brisk walking) or 2.5 hours a week of vigorous exercise (such as jogging), along with resistance training (such as lifting weights) that works the major muscle groups at least twice a week. If you are now somewhat inactive, start with 10 minutes of activity several times a day and work your way up to a more challenging schedule.
These recommendations come with the advice you get your doctor’s okay before beginning an exercise program.
Our First BBQ Social
We had our first BBQ social on Friday, June 16, 2017 at El Retiro Park, Torrance. We are delighted that 45 of you joined us on this occasion. We chatted and socialized, we BBQed and we ate. Finally we played games with energy and enthusiasm matching that of four years old playing in the adjoining playground. We are proud of you. Please enjoy the slideshow of photos taken at the BBQ and we hope to see you again next time.
